Take part in the Sunset / Sunrise Survey

Keen to get involved in bat monitoring?

This survey is ideal for you if you don't have previous bat surveying experience or do not currently own a bat detector. It is an opportunity to get together with family/friends and discover bats and other wildlife in your local area. Simply head out at dusk or before dawn, or both! Spend an hour in your garden or walking around your local area and look out for bats.

You can carry out your survey anytime from April to September.

You will need: Survey form, pencil/pen, torch, watch.

If you are doing your survey in the evening start at sunset. If you are doing your survey at dawn start one hour before sunrise.

Spend an hour looking for bats and any other nocturnal animals you can see or hear.

The Bat Conservation Trust

The Bat Conservation Trust is the leading non-governmental organisation in the United Kingdom solely devoted to the conservation of bats and the landscapes on which they rely. Since 1991, the Bat Conservation Trust has run a diverse range of projects to conserve bat populations. We are part of one of the most successful conservation movements in the world, supported by a network of members, volunteers, academics and professionals.

Bats are now protected by law in Europe, and in the UK some species may already be benefiting from the positive effects of conservation, but we have a long way to go to achieve our vision of a world rich in wildlife where bats and people thrive together. To make this possible we rely on people like you! So get involved, volunteer for bats.
